Highest Praise

I am going to share what I believe is the second part of my last post. I’ve heard two pastors preach something over the past several months that I’ve been meditating on for a while and want to combine in today… to be honest though it hasn’t been too easy to put into action even though it might seem like it.

Most of the time when we pray we ask for direction and that’s all we do because we feel lost, stumbling around in a seemingly dark world, having no clue what to do and being completely confused. In the middle of that we lose perspective and all we see is only the bottom and the four foot radius around us. We are afraid to move our hands and feet not to mention taking a step forward.

How and why do we get to this place so many times in our life?

I personally believe it is because we forget to praise God who knows all things, who created us, who created this planet, who created everyone around us, who gave us vision and hands and feet to carry it out.

Psalm 149:6 (NLT) says:

1 Praise the Lord!

Sing to the Lord a new song.
Sing his praises in the assembly of the faithful.

2 O Israel, rejoice in your Maker.
O people of Jerusalem,[a] exult in your King.
3 Praise his name with dancing,
accompanied by tambourine and harp.
4 For the Lord delights in his people;
he crowns the humble with victory.
5 Let the faithful rejoice that he honors them.
Let them sing for joy as they lie on their beds.

6 Let the praises of God be in their mouths,
and a sharp sword in their hands—
7 to execute vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,
8 to bind their kings with shackles
and their leaders with iron chains,
9 to execute the judgment written against them.
This is the glorious privilege of his faithful ones.

Praise the Lord!

9 to carry out the sentence written against them.
This is the glory of all his saints.
Praise the LORD.

The word ‘praise’ in verse 6 in Hebrew means ‘Highest Praise’. This is the only place that exact word is used in the bible. It’s that kind of praise that brings about victory. As we give God our highest praise we kneel down before him and hand him our weapon to where we give him charge over our lives by faith and permission to fight on our behalf, knowing that He has already defeated our enemy on the cross and that we don’t have to do it again by ourselves.

We are not God’s puppet. He has given us a free will, a smart brain, and a heart that can be converted to follow, love and obey Him and be sensitive to Him; all those factors combined give us a foundation to execute what He has called us to do without fear but confidence that He lives in us, acting on the truth of Him being the Lord of our lives and move forward.

Picture the following in your mind: You are standing on a street made of cobblestone which makes rows from left to right or right to left. As you’re standing there you talk to God and ask for direction and He says “walk forward”. But because you haven’t spent enough time with him and forgot how powerful He is , still wanting to be in control over your own life, scared to mess up and disappoint God –  you ask how many rows of cobblestone you may pass. But all God wants is your companionship to where you walk when He says ‘walk’ and just stay close to His side, being tuned in to His voice, trusting that if He said ‘walk’ He will for sure say ‘turn to the right’, ‘turn to the left’, ‘stop’, or ‘run’, ‘just have fun and enjoy.. it’s ok to do a zic zac and enjoy’.

I believe so many times we waste time because we just stand still in fear of making a mistake when all God wants for us is to take what He told us and just run with it holding His hand, being confident in who we are in Christ.

So today I want to encourage you to praise Him. There is a reason why God dedicated a whole book in the bible to praise and worship. It’s the one thing besides the word of God that will last for all eternity. Right now angels are praising and worshipping God non-stop and we will do so too when we cross over to eternity and we will never stop. Christianity is the only ‘religion’ if you want to call it that that praises!  So praise Him, open your mouth and sing praises to Him. You will see a big change in your heart and life!
